team building boston

Building a sense of camaraderie, trust and surt among the members of your team can be crucial to the teams success. We have experienced success in our mens swimming program at Golden West Community College. While it may be difficult to describe the “pieces of the puzzle” of our success, I strongly advocate one of the components of this puzzle: team camaraderie. The community college (junior college) system presents added barriers each year in building team spirit because we annually lose 50 percent or more of our team to graduation and/or attrition. This means that every year, roughly half of our team is comprised of new faces and personalities (often from around the world) who bring a diversity of beliefs and cultures together for the first time.
Building unbeatable teams is the key to successful organizational growth. The Academy of Medical-Surgical Nurses (AMSN) has been successful for the last 12 years because we have learned the benefits of team building. Although our board is made up of eight volunteers who are elected by our members, we know the value of accomplishing our vision and strategic plan can only be operationalized by being team players. AMSN is like a flock of geese. If you ever see birds flying south for the winter, you may notice that they fly in tandem, with any one in the flock being capable of taking the lead in various situations. To build a team, partnerships must be developed among team members based on integrity and mutual respect, work groups must be developed that stimulate people to reach their highest potential, and pride must be taken in serving others. AMSN has determined that the objective of our team is to serve our constituents by being ever mindful of our mission, vision, and strategic plan, which is a work in progress. The most important contribution our team must make is to be successful for our membership.
Building conflict competent teams.

The figures were reported by Bloomberg News on June 30, 2006. The strength shown by furniture sales in Germany appears to have been reported in the region generally. A separate Bloomberg News report, published on July 6, 2006, said that retail sales in the eurozone rose for the third straight month. An index of retail sales increased to 55.1 in June 2006, the second highest level since the index began in January 2004.

AN ADVERT for designer fashion brand Armani was criticised yesterday for “sexualising children”. Orthet, which holds the UK licence for Armani Junior , did not comment to the ASA on the complaints but agreed to withdraw the advert and not to use it again. The Times told the watchdog it had received 10 complaints after the advert appeared in its magazine. The ASA said the picture made the models gender ambiguous and drew attention to the childs sexuality.
Childrens ClothingIn the United States, a wide range of social changes impacted childrens clothes. The sewing machine (both home and factory varieties) eased the burden of sewing clothes for the family, and, by the Civil War, paper patterns were readily available for childrens clothes. The Civil War itself changed childrens garments because standard sizes of uniforms were made for soldiers. Soon, all clothing was sized, and styles for children began to differ because of size ranges. Transportation methods diversified and necessitated new clothing styles. Sports clothes were developed with train travel in mind, and tailored suits for girls and box coats for boys were made specifically for travel. The bicycle and the baby carriage were both popular by mid-century, and clothes for children to wear while riding were created. Dolls and paper dolls became popular toys, and, as the shape of the baby doll changed from a diminutive grown-up to a more baby-like shape, costumes for both real babies and their toy counterparts were modified to suit babys needs. Bonnets as absolutes for American girls also dropped out of fashion when the Civil War eliminated cotton production.By the 1870s, styles had again become very restrictive. Young girls wore laced and boned corsets to shape their waists from an early age even though doctors had become aware of the damage caused to growing bones, circulation, and breathing. Children also wore mourning clothes complete with veils. Girls being sent to boarding school had all the accoutrements of their mothers including fans, stockings, pantaloons, bustles, and feathered hats. Starched clothing appeared neater and cleaner, so shirts and dresses were stiff to the point of discomfort. Changes were beginning to occur rapidly in clothing manufacture, however, as the long centuries of handmade clothes gave way to factory-made garments. Those factory-made garments were also available to any-one with a mail-order catalog.
NATIONAL GUIDELINES will be launched today to help protect children from the suns harmful rays by labelling sun-resistant garments. The thickness of the fibres and the density of the weave determines how much of the suns harmful rays get through to the skin. If a garment complies with the new guidelines it will be entitled to be labelled with the wording “prevents sunburn” and the British Standard number. These garments must also advise use of sunscreen on exposed skin.

Gretsch Electric Guitars

A renaissance is happening in acoustic guitars: gorgeous workmanship, technical innovation, new playing styles, new musicians. Custom guitar shops featuring incredible instruments are popping up like acne on a teenager. Acoustic Guitar reports on the trends, introduces new artists, and always provides detailed tablature for three or four new songs. Some builders are most concerned with building a large number of instruments, perhaps thinking that through volume they can make a decent living. Volume also affords the builder a lot of information about his or her guitars. With careful note taking and a scientific approach, it is possible to keep track of small changes and incorporate the improvements into new guitars. Its nice if a change in bracing improves only one guitar, but if it improves many guitars, it could prove to be a better design. Some makers produce the same instrument over and over, concentrating primarily on craft. I am more interested in experimenting with guitar design, trying new shapes, sizes, asymmetries, materials, and bracing patterns. This means that each of my guitars is a prototype, but even a failure is a powerful learning experience. Of course, I try to incorporate improvements and disregard the flops. With 24 strings and 40 fingers, Joe Pass, Pepe Romero, Leo Kottke, and Paco Pena encapsulate a sizable portion of the music made on acoustic guitars in the 20th century. When they took to the stage in San Francisco this winter as part of their Guitar Summit tour, these master guitarists led the audience on a voyage across a broad landscape of European and American music, spanning centuries and continents with only the graceful, sure touch of fingertips on strings.
Byline: By Andrew Hirst AS close to a ballad as theyre likely to get. The guitars do get heavy, but Justin Hawkins voice never blasts off into the usual soprano-sounding stratosphere. New in at five.

Gene Veno: DCs Person of the Year Of course, unity is nothing new to Gene Veno. As executive director of the Pennsylvania Chiropractic Association, he helped unify the chiropractic profession in the Keystone State; then he helped do the same for chiropractors in neighboring New Jersey. In June 2005, he began addressing the need for a unified purpose and message on a national level. According to Mr. Veno, the Campaign for Chiropractic is a three-phase project:
Proposed Legislation Would Expand the Chiropractic Benefit Worldwide Dynamic Chiropractic examines House Resolutions 5122 and 5202, two important pieces of legislation that would significantly impact the provision of chiropractic services to U.S. military personnel and veterans around the world. Providing chiropractic benefits to the nations veterans has been a goal of the chiropractic profession for decades. B.J. Palmer first promulgated the idea of making chiropractic a health benefit for veterans as early as 1937, and even succeeded in having a bill introduced in Congress that would have given veterans access to chiropractic services. While Dr. Palmers original efforts were unsuccessful, the profession finally reached its goal in January 2002, when President George W. Bush signed into law the Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Programs Enhancement Act, which established a permanent chiropractic benefit within the Veterans Affairs health care system.

Are you a mother looking for the must-have looks in childrens clothes? Spring fashions in fun colors from the Big Enough clothes line have arrived. This exclusive spring collection is available for toddlers through pre-teens. The clothes line has subdued shades for girls and muted tones for boys. Mothers can mix and match pieces of clothing from the Big Enough line, based on European-inspired designs.
ITS HARD to believe that in a materialistic, fashion-driven country such as ours that anyone would say there is no choice on the store shelves. But, in fact, sisters Laurie Ivry and Julie Drummond complained of just that when they, out of the blue one day three years ago, decided to start a childrens clothing store. Red Wagon stores in Berkeley and Lafayette are the products of their frustration with the marketplace. Although Red Wagon serves both boys and girls, the retailers went a long way to solving a common conflict between mothers and daughters as well.

After the robust growth in 2006, construction activity posted even higher growth rates in 2007. The value of construction put in place surged by 18.5% over 2006. Activity in civil engineering increased by 24.7% as a result of the construction of transport infrastructure. The construction of buildings grew by 15.5%; within that, non-residential construction was up 20.2%, whereas activity in residential construction decreased by 0.9%. Based on detailed data on issued building permits, the vigorous construction of hotels appears to have continued last year, probably along with the construction of wholesale and retail trade buildings. In interpreting the figure on the value of residential construction put in place we should bear in mind that these figures exclude the activity of smaller firms (see the note under the table), where the construction of buildings is the main activity. Stronger growth was partly linked to favourable weather conditions, especially in the first half of the year. This is corroborated by the business trends regarding the limiting factors in construction. The share of firms that reported bad weather conditions as a limiting factor was much lower in the first half of 2007 than in the previous year. The weather was also more propitious than the year before in the third quarter, but it was less favourable in the fourth quarter, which affected growth in the latter part of the year. The growth in the number of employees increased further last year. In 2007 the number of people employed in the construction sector was 11.3% higher, on average, than in 2006. The number of workers by activity rose particularly in building completion; in the latter part of the year it also increased in general construction. In terms of employee status, higher growth rates were recorded in the number of sole proprietors and their employees.
Peggy Williams of Enco was named Woman in Construction of the Year in the Little Rock division by the National Association of Women in Construction.

Wood equals warmth. Thats one reason more hoteliers are choosing wood, engineered wood and flooring that gives the look of hardwood. Hotel Indigo, a brand of InterContinental Hotels Group, chose Classen laminate wood flooring for its cleanliness and durability. The flooring already is being used in the brands Atlanta and Chicago properties. The floors can be cleaned on a daily basis, and spills and the like can be wiped up without leaving any stains–benefits you typically would not find with carpet, said Marc S. Greene, c.e.o. of Rockwell-Sayers LLC, the commercial flooring company that analyzed, tested and negotiated the pricing for Hotel Indigo. Should a piece of laminate get damaged, it is easy to replace. In addition, the wood floors at Hotel Indigo are infused with Microban, an antibacterial product. Homewood Suites, a brand of Hilton Hotels Corp., has required laminate wood floors in new build properties and product improvement plans since 2000. Currently, about 75 Homewood Suites properties have laminate wood flooring from manufacturers including Pergo and Wilsonart.

2 Line Corded Phone

TELEPHONE SKILLSTelephones are devices that allow the user to communicate messages across lines electronically. One can easily communicate with those both nearby and far away using the telephone by simply dialing a specially designated number. The word telephone comes from two Greek words meaning far and sound. It is difficult to estimate the total number of telephones in existence today. They are ubiquitous because of their extreme importance as a communications tool. Telephones come in a wide variety of shapes, sizes, and colors, as well as with options that can be configured to accommodate almost any conceivable need.
The telephone is a device for conducting spoken conversations across any distance beyond the range of the unaided human ear or the unamplified human voice. It works by transferring the atmospheric vibrations of human speech into a solid body and by converting those vibrations into electrical impulses sent through a conducting medium–originally metal wires but now optical fibers and electromagnetic microwaves as well. The word is a compound of two Greek words “tele” (”far”) and “phone” (”sound”) and the instrument is the most widely-used of all telecommunications appliances with hundreds of millions of telephones in use all over the world. On any given business day approximately two billion calls are placed just in the United States. The telephone is also the archetypal electronic “medium” in the sense of the word intended by Marshall McLuhan–an “extension of man”–but its social impact is grossly understudied in favor of the more readily observable “bully blow” of the television. Telephones are small and unobtrusive and their impact on our visible environment (except for the poles and wires) has not transformed our relationship to it.
The Telephone as Computer The automation of the telephone doesnt replace human contact, nor should it. But, used for routine transactions, it is introducing a new level of efficiency to the way America does business. Although a few consumers may resist, most appreciate the benefits. And why not? All they need is that familiar old instrument, the telephone, and their business is handled without delay.

Total Employment Rate An important aspect of economic performance is how the resources are utilised, human capital being societys main resource. Consequently, the employment rate and its development are crucial both for economic growth and social cohesion. The Lisbon European Council stated that more and better jobs should be created and the overall target was to increase the employment rate to 70% by 2010. An intermediate goal for the employment rate was to reach 67% by January 2005. In addition, the re-launching of the Lisbon Strategy by the European Council in 2005, following the mid-term review of the Strategy, has put even more importance and focus on growth and employment.

Researchers found cavities in 52% of the Hispanic participants and 54% of the black participants. But overall, the dental health and health-promoting habits of the Hispanic children were better than those of the other study participants: Many more Hispanic youths said they had had a dental visit sometime in their lifetime, and 94% reported that they brushed daily, compared with 83% of black adolescents and 85% of other children in the study.
“From the beginning, Delta Dental has tried to get the message across that good oral health is an important part of overall health,” said Seitz. “Our goal has always been to improve oral health by making dental care more affordable to people throughout the state.” To help make his point about oral health and its importance, Seitz refers to statistics from the National Institute of Dental Research, which reveals that $1 spent on dental care now saves $4 in treatment costs later in an individuals life. Seitz also refers to research conducted by the U.S. Public Health Service which shows that dental and oral diseases that could have been prevented with proper dental care affect more than 50 percent of children in the U.S. The latter, he says, results in, among other things, missed school days–117,000 per 100,000 children, according to the Journal of Public Health. “Dental disease can keep a child from going to school and an adult away from work–just like other ailments have the potential to do,” said Seitz.
Dental readiness is defined as the dental health of troops that could be deployed and sent into combat.1 A high degree of dental readiness translates into a dentally fit fighting force. The importance of this cannot be overemphasized. One study of a deployed armored division found that “dental complaints ranked second only to upper respiratory infections as a cause of lost duty time.”2Complete dental examinations are the basis for identifying dental readiness of our Air Force Reserve Command (AFRC) members. On the basis of this examination, members are classified by their potential to have a dental emergency within 1 year. Regular dental examinations are thought to promote dental readiness by identifying dental disease and then correcting it before disease progression leads to major dental problems and incapacitation. Poor dental health of one individual may compromise the effectiveness of the entire unit.

Veritas Collagen Matrix, from Synovis Life Technologies, is an innovative
non-cross-linked biologic material derived from bovine pericardium
indicated for use as an implant for the surgical repair of soft tissue
deficiencies, including abdominal wall and thoracic wall
repair, muscle flap reinforcement, and repair of hernias . Veritas is
produced through a patented process that results in an extremely
biocompatible and highly acellular remodelable material. Once implanted,
Veritas provides a scaffold for connective tissue protein synthesis and
host tissue in-growth. The result is the seamless integration of Veritas
into the surrounding host tissue.

Veritas has been used successfully in contaminated wounds and in the
presence of infection as well as in other challenging situations. The U.S.
Food and Drug Administration (FDA) granted Synovis the following additional
indication: Veritas minimizes tissue attachment to the material when in
direct contact with viscera. Veritas is the first biologic to have received
this important indication from the FDA.

Veritas has been used successfully in a variety of surgical procedures
including: complex abdominal wall repair, laparoscopic hiatal hernia
repair, chest wall reconstruction, and breast reconstruction.

Non-Invasive Surgery Provides New Alternative to Traditional Rhinoplasty The non-surgical nose job is an exciting alternative to surgery and is a great option for any individual seeking rhinoplasty, especially ethnic patients, said Dr. Kwan. Because this procedure is most often recommended to patients who would benefit from nasal implants, which are typically Asian, African-American and Hispanic individuals, ethnic patients are the ideal candidates for this procedure. Using an injectable gel called Juvederm, Dr. Kwan shapes or contours the nose to achieve the patients desired results. By making injections into precise areas of the nose the procedure can disguise a nasal bump or indentation, straighten or lift the nasal tip and increase the appearance of a flattened nasal bridge. Juvederm is also the first FDA approved hyaluronic acid filler that is proven to be safe and effective for persons of color.

We expect heightened activity in the importation of money for capital projects in 2006. Here in Anchorage, funds will be raised ($100 million) for the new Anchorage Convention Center. Additionally, we expect to see additional funds raised for utility development. Alaska Housing Finance Corp. can be expected to continue issuing bonds for ongoing housing and the Alaska Railroad is progressing toward raising funds for rail and economic associated projects. Federally appropriated transportation funds, coupled with large state surpluses of oil revenue, will result in increased state budgets for both operations and infrastructure development. Anchorage will spend federal port appropriations on its major port expansion. As discussions related to the gas pipeline construction continue, it is anticipated that interest of financial giants will be stimulated and result in an increased visitation and interest in Alaska gas line and offshoot industrial projects along the pipeline and its spurs.

Not Neville Shute, but a winter break for Bandolier. Beach reading was a superb book on thinking about numbers, involving risk and diagnostic tests. We know that all of us have trouble with probabilities, and odds ratios, and sensitivity and specificity. Different strategies can help most of us overcome these problems. The book is reviewed in this issue, and will be of particular use to tutors for professional development plans. Bandolier will try to use some of these ideas in future.
At ten to five the sun rose. Me and the boy were seated in our directors chairs on the beach, mourning the embers of our dying fire. We were about midway along a five-mile curve of shingle, about 30 yards from the sea. There wasnt a puff of wind; the cigarettes-worth of smoke from our fire went more or less straight up. The waves collapsing on the shore were piddly. In spite of their lack of vigour, however, every other one washed up hundreds of tiny silver fishes that died in shining rows on the wet shingle. After the sun had cleared the hill by about half an inch (about quarter past) a figure appeared beside the shore to our right. He was casting his rod into the sea, catching a fish immediately, tossing it back, and moving along again. He was coming towards us. As he got nearer, we could see that apart from a satchel he was nude.

I very much appreciated Dr. Christopher J. Keats guest editorial Reflections on Chestnut Lodge, which concisely described some of the characteristics of the Lodge that made it such a unique and valuable treatment center (August 2003, p. 13). As a psychiatrist who was medical director of CPC Health when it bought Chestnut Lodge in 1996–a few years before the combined entity went bankrupt–I have two comments related to Dr. Keats editorial. Moreover, during the middle and late 1990s the Lodge was able to bill for these services effectively and was in relatively good financial shape.

INVESTMENT advisers say the best returns for the year are likely to come from the property market. And real estate investment trusts (REITs), which offer dividends from rental income derived from buildings invested in or owned, should become a very interesting investment option.
More than Meets the Eye Risk managers dont have to satisfy a formal education requirement to get their jobs, but they still ought to be conversant with the content of insurance contracts. That familiarity, however, has a downside because it can be the source of a false sense of security. When they talk about appraisal under the terms of a property policy, textbooks, instructional materials and, instructors have, always had a tendency to presume that the parties have resolved all coverage issues before they resort to appraisal. Thats probably the effect of common sense lurking in the subconscious and exerting a powerful influence over what gets written or spoken. An appraisal is an expensive proposition and each party has to bear a share of the cost. Because the appraiser cant consider coverage issues, the thing to do is resolve them before incurring the expense of an appraisal. Thats just common sense.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. — A Sacramento-area auto dealer is taking on global giant Nissan, alleging that Nissan is systematically violating California law when it forces its local auto dealers to relocate near Honda and Toyota competitors before selling their dealerships. On Monday, Gary A. Hamner will get his day in Superior Court in Stockton after a nearly decade-long battle with Nissan. Ironically, before Mr. Hamner was told that a new buyer would have to move the dealership, Nissan had required him to purchase the land he was leasing for his auto dealership. If he didnt purchase the land, Nissan told him he would lose his franchise.

The incentive measures are to develop activities in support of the European Employment Strategy adopted at the Lisbon European Council. Funding will be given to projects that will contribute to the development of a coordinated strategy for employment through analyses, monitoring of labour market policies and support actions carried out by the participating countries. Among the goals set out for the programme are identification of best practices and promotion of exchanges and transfers of information and experience, including ways of cooperating with the social partners and relevant local and regional authorities. The programme is also to contribute to the follow-up and evaluation of the European Employment Strategy. The EEA EFTA States also participate in the European Employment Service (EURES) (see the section below on Community services and systems).
Employment Job growth is beginning to keep pace with the regions expanding working-age population.
ISMs Employment Index remained below 50% in September for the 36th consecutive month. The index registered 45.7% in September compared to 45.9% in August, a decrease of 0.2%. Zultys Technologies today announced the BTC
phone, a powerful wireless conference phone that is compatible with its
range of SIP IP phones as well as mobile phones. The BTC (Bluetooth
Conference Phone) provides unparalleled speech quality and removes clutter
from the conference room table.

The BTC phone is aesthetically designed to enhance any conference room. Its
batteries power the unit for about a week, obviating the need for power
cables and phone lines to be dragged across the conference room table. The
portability and use of open standards permit the phone to be moved from
room to room or to a remote facility — even your car. The phone has four
microphones and a powerful DSP (Digital Signal Processor) ensuring clarity
of both the listeners as well as those at the other end of the call. The
phones speaker output is best in its class and the acoustic echo
cancellation permits a natural conversation.

“We have been delighted with the quality of Zultys products and service
since our installation several months ago,” said Dennis Cabuco, IT manager
at the San Francisco Bay Guardian newspaper, in San Francisco, California.
“There has not been a viable solution for adding conference phones to an IP
system before Zultys introduced this phone. We love the fact that Zultys
products are so flexible, easy to use, and have such great speech quality.”

Cement use in the historic cemeteries of the French Quarter Although most concrete crypts and mausoleums are built in low-lying areas, where water could easily destroy a coffin, its not entirely true for the city of New Orleans. Basically, the majority, if not all, of the crypts and mausoleums in the cemeteries of New Orleans were built along the lines of traditional European cemeteries and to represent the architecture of a French city. In fact, many visitors to New Orleans have stated that these cemeteries do look like a miniature city-a “city of the dead”1 (Fig. 2 and 3). Most of the crypts and mausoleums in New Orleans are constructed of brick covered with a cement plaster (see Fig. 4). Even when these crypts and mausoleums need repair work done, workers use a mixture of both lime and cement. This combination does not detract from the original structure.2
Run by The Concrete Centre in collaboration with The Building Centre Trust and delivered by leading designers, innovators and manufacturers, the Concrete Elegance lecture series provides graduate architects and engineers with an inspirational insight into a range of projects where off-site and cast in-place concrete have been used to achieve innovative and elegant design. The 2007 Concrete Elegance series continued to cover a range of issues and projects. The first lecture examined developments in sustainable concrete architecture. In particular, it focused on the reduction of both embodied and operational CO2, how to create carbon-neutral concrete and the design of single-skin self-finished external concrete walls. Lecture speakers included: Toby Lewis of Fielden Clegg Bradley Architects, who discussed the National Trust Heelis building in Swindon and the Persistence Works in Sheffield; Patrick Filipaj of Zurich-based Banz Choffat Filipaj Architekten, who examined the single-skin concrete construction of Peter Gartmanns Char House; and Ian Prichett of Lime Technology, who presented the use of hempcrete for Adnams Distribution Centre designed by architect Aukett Fitzroy Robinson.
The Concrete Centres activities and achievements have made significant progress during 2006. The UK has one of the lowest per capita consumptions of cement and concrete in the world. The Concrete Centre has been set up to address this by ensuring that the key decision makers and influencers in the construction industry are made fully aware of the wide range of benefits and attributes that concrete has. The most critical project stages that assist in the formulation of a decision as to whether or not to go with concrete are the feasibility study and detailed design. It is at these stages that the frame material is determined. Therefore, it is essential that the decision makers involved are able to make a fully informed choice in terms of structural design, construction methods, fire performance, environmental and acoustic performance and thermal efficiency. We in the concrete industry need to ensure that best practice information on the most efficient forms of concrete construction is available to design teams. The resources and advice provided by The Concrete Centre prove invaluable at this critical stage of the design process.

laser hair removal pittsburgh

Q Im tired of shaving every single day. Has laser hair removal improved at all over the past couple of years, and is it right for me? * Lasers work best on dark hair and light skin. The low-energy light targets pigment in the hair follicle, damaging it enough to slow down future growth. The light is attracted to color like a magnet, Gilmore explains. Since blonde hair doesnt have much pigment, the laser wont gravitate toward it as well as it would dark-colored hair. And if your skin is naturally dark or tanned (even from self-tanners), the laser wont detect dark hair against it. * You wont get instant results. Hair cycles through one growth phase and two dormant phases, usually within two to four months total. So as more hair grows in, youll need additional treatments, about four weeks apart.
ANAHEIM, CALIF. — Some individuals having a laser procedure for hair removal are getting the opposite of what they desire: new terminal hair growth adjacent to treated areas. This is real, and its out there, Dr. Ranella J. Hirsch said at the annual meeting of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery. There seems to be a predominance in the chin and sideburn area. That appears to be only partially true, however, said Dr. Hirsch of the Wellman Laboratories of Photomedicine at Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston.
NEW YORK — Patients unrealistic expectations are the major pitfall of laser hair removal, Dr. Eric F. Bernstein said at the 11th International Symposium on Cosmetic Laser Surgery. In the context of laser hair removal, very intelligent people revert to a 7-year-olds mentality and hear what they want to hear-not what doctors have to say, said Dr. Bernstein, president of Laser Surgery and Cosmetic Dermatology Centers Inc., Marlton, N.J. Dr. Bernstein tells patients they will need a minimum of three initial treatments 6 weeks apart, plus additional maintenance to keep all the hairs away.

Omega 3 Pregnancy

For example, in Russia theres Agusha Agu-Mama. This yogurt drink is enriched with vitamins, taurine and omega 3 and 6 fatty acids. It is targeted to pregnant women.
SCOTTSDALE, ARIZ. — With growing concerns about treatment of depression in pregnancy, omega-3 fatty acids are gaining attention as a possible treatment that might be without risk and healthful for mother and child, Marlene Freeman, M.D., said at a psychopharmacology conference sponsored by the University of Arizona. Omega-3 fatty acids can become depleted during pregnancy and lactation anyway, so the suggestion that they might play a role preventing depression in pregnancy is even more intriguing–especially with recent research raising concerns of a possible neonatal withdrawal syndrome associated with use of selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors during pregnancy, said Dr. Freeman, director of the universitys womens mental health program in Tucson. A non-peer reviewed study looking specifically at the role of omega-3 fatty acids in depression among pregnant women and involving nearly 14,000 pregnant British women showed higher depression scores correlating with lower seafood intake. The study indicated a protective effect of omega-3 acids not only at 18 weeks gestation but also at 8 weeks and 32 weeks post partum.
With the increased recommendation of the dietary supplement omega 3 fatty acid (fish oil concentrate) being incorporated into maternity patients diets, I am concerned that there is a potential risk for mercury intoxication. We have alerted obstetric patients to the potential harm in eating certain fish during their pregnancies because of the high mercury content. Do we have any way of evaluating the level of mercury in fish oil supplements?

keyless remote

Cars are mysteriously dying in a few block radius around New York Citys Empire State Building. Many people think the phenomena could be caused by more than 30 transmission antennas on the 102-story building. Automotive experts and engineers believe the problem may stem from radio frequency interference thats jamming the remote keyless entry systems of cars. The remote keyless entry systems operate on specific wavelengths assigned by the FCC. The FCC said it has not received any complaints regarding interference affecting autos in midtown, and Empire State Building officials dont believe the claims.

–Dodi Fayed bought an 11,600 “engagement ring” hours before his death in a car crash with Diana, Princess of Wales, an inquest has heard. The jury, sitting at Londons High Court, was shown a receipt dated 30 August 1997, recovered after the couples death, with the words “bague fiancaille” - meaning engagement ring. The jury saw CCTV footage of Dodi at the jewellers. The ring was recovered from his flat in Paris.
The Capital-Journal Nearly half of all wedding proposals occur between November and February, yet most men are overwhelmed by the notion of buying an engagement ring no matter when they choose to pop the question. Carpet Cleaning in London

The acres of carpeting at a typical hotel represent a significant expense, and most hoteliers prefer to keep that investment looking as good as possible for as long as possible. Typically, hotel staff members clean carpeting, according to Greg Rosenblatt, administrative manager for Stark Carpets. Hotel personnel should consult with a qualified carpet cleaner to develop a service plan thats appropriate for the type of carpet and its usage. With the right cleaning schedule and methods, carpet can be kept looking like new.

CarpetThe first carpets of note were woven by nomads. The thick carpets were easy to transport and were placed over the sand floor of tent dwellings. Early looms were similarly easy to transport. Two forked branches were joined by a crosspiece holding the suspended warp, and a wooden bar was used to flatten binding weft threads, while the loose warp ends formed the carpets pile. The Pazyryk carpet has been documented as the earliest hand loom carpet, dating back from 500 B.C. and discovered in a tomb located in the Alti Mountains in Central Asia. From these early beginnings, carpet weaving rose to its highest art form in Turkey, Iran, India, and China. Using cotton, linen, or hemp as the foundation, and wool or silk as the luxurious pile, weavers would make a knot out of the pile thread, then form a row of knots that was tightly beaten down. The process was time-consuming: some of the finest handmade carpets have as many as 2,400 knots per square inch (372 knots per sq cm). The brilliant colors of these ancient carpets came from natural dyes such as madder, indigo, genista, woad, and ocher. Some weavers added alum to these dyes to fix the color, and a few wove gold and precious jewels into their carpets.

First of three stand-alone stores bows in Chicagoland SCHERERVILLE, IND. — Making good on ceo Alan Lacys promise to strengthen core competencies, Sears has begun experimenting this summer with a new standalone appliances and consumer electronics concept known simply as Sears Appliances Electronics. In essence, the company is duplicating the appliances and electronics departments of its full-line stores and dropping them in “neighborhood settings” in strip centers, said Larry Costello, Sears director of public relations for hard lines. The result is a format that can draw on existing infrastructure without the need to add supporting staff positions at headquarters.

Mr. Klinghoffer is NRs literary editor.FALL is here at last and Ive been looking forward to it for a number of rea- sons: crisp autumn air, orange leaves, pumpkin pie, and the probability that the sexier women on our city streets would begin to put their clothes back on again. By winter, they may be fully dressed. The male instinct tells us to celebrate this. Recently I conducted a survey of my male friends, in their twenties and thirties, and found they had all taken note of the evolution in fashion: shorter shorts, shorter skirts, chiffon-type skirts that are long but see-through, suggestively ripped Levis, very tight and small white T-shirts baring eight inches of tanned stomach, very thin loose T-shirts worn without a bra. No shape or location of anything, no ques- tion as to firmness or softness, is left ambiguous.

Mike Londoff has a recipe for living. It is like an unobtrusive warming stew blending generous slices of spiritual commitment and professional integrity. Londoff, along with his partner Ryan Cox, has the only practice in St. Charles County dedicated solely to worker compensation and personal injury cases. Londoff has admitted that personal injury lawyers have often been considered to possess a level of public appeal somewhere between the stereotypical used car salesman and gossip tabloid reporter. They are scorned until somebody needs them. Theyve gotten beatings for years, he commented. And with 31 years experience, he has a fuller understanding of the legal profession and what it could be. I consider the practice of law to be a very honorable profession, and I treat it as such, Londoff said. I enjoy the practice. I enjoy the courts I practice in front of and the judges I practice in front of with both my opponents and contemporaries, Londoff said.

Homeowners looking to refurbish their houses but unwilling to use expensive credit cards to finance it will soon be served by a new, locally based loan company specializing in home improvement loans. American First Mortgage Source Inc. will open Feb. 1 at 504 W. Mission Ave., in Escondido. Jess Chinchillas, founder of the company, recently returned to the county after serving as vice president for The Money Store, a Sacramento-based home lender. The home improvement loan is secured by a lien on the subject property, he added. Since the average home improvement loan is smaller than other kinds of home equity loans, but has just as much paperwork, the points charged are usually proportionally higher, he added.

Conventional Fire Alarms

Proposed code changes should help improve fire alarm system design. Its not uncommon to hear fire alarm system owners complain about unwanted alarms, audibility problems, or acceptance test requirements-problems that many in the industry think start with the initial system design or installation. These complaints havent gone unheeded. In fact, the various technical committees responsible for developing NFPA 72, National Fire Alarm Code, are currently considering several proposals and comments that address these concerns. Among these are Proposal 72-99, which was submitted in an attempt to improve the quality of fire alarm system design. Proposal 72-99 would require that all fire alarm systems be designed by registered fire protection engineers or by National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technology (NICET) LEVEL III-certified technicians.
Tamper-proof smoke alarms are to be installed in homes. Areas where the number of house fires is high are being targeted by Tyne and Wear Fire Service. Chris Lowther, community safety manager, said: In the last 12 months, we attended 1,875 house fires and of the 1,255 smoke alarms which were fitted, 141 of those were not working at the time. Smoke detectors play a vital role in giving people enough warning to get out of the house when there is a fire.
Fire-Lite Alarms offers a complete line of addressable fire alarm panels, which comprises the MS-9200, MS-9600 and the MS-9200UD. The panels feature advanced autoprogramming capabilities, which reduce installation time and overall cost. The panels allow an entire system to be autoprogrammed with the touch of a button. They include automatic detector test capability, drift compensation and maintenance alert. [ILLUSTRATION OMITTED]

permanent hair removal

Hair RemoverHair removers, or depilatories, are products designed to chemically or physically remove undesirable hair from areas on the body. Hair removers are made by mixing together the appropriate raw materials in large stainless steel tanks and then filling them into individual packages. In use for thousands of years, they continue to be an important part of many peoples everyday hygiene. Currently, new hair removers are being investigated which are less irritating, more effective, and longer lasting.Epilatories were the first type of hair removers. The most common of these products is an epilating wax. This product is heated and spread on the skin in the desired area. It is then allowed to cool and harden. The mass of wax is then rapidly removed, pulling with it about 80% of the hairs. It is a slightly painful procedure and a mild anti-+ septic is typically applied to protect against skin irritation. Epilatories have not been widely used by individual consumers, how-ever they are popular in beauty salons. While epilatories continue to be an important method of hair removal, depilatories are much more common in personal care. Depilatories rely on a chemical reaction between materials in the formula with components of the hair. When the depilatory is applied to the skin, a component in the product, such as thioglycolic acid, reacts with the protein in the hair and weakens it. The hair can then be removed from the skin by gentle wiping, scraping, or rinsing. This is effective on any part of the hair structure that is above the level of the skin.
Unwanted facial hair is a common condition that often goes untreated. Women most often seek treatment, but men may also have concerns about this problem. (1) In most cases, a severe underlying medical condition is not the cause of unwanted facial hair. Its presence, however, causes significant psychologic stress and may lead patients to resort to uncomfortable and often expensive means of removal. During the anagen phase, mitotic activity in the hair bulb and dermal papilla resumes and forms the new hair shaft, pushing out the old inactive hair, or club hair, as the new hair advances. The matrix cells, which form the new hair, multiply rapidly and ascend into the follicular canal, dehydrate, and form the growing shaft. The visible hair shaft is composed of an outer cuticle, the cortex and, sometimes, a core of compact, keratinized cells, all of which are made of protein. (2-5)
